Paracute Regiment History

Post by Rian.ca »

Ive been looking everywhere in Toronto for books with anything to do with the Paras with little luck.CQB and Shoot to Kill seem to be the only ones and are set around the same time periode.
What im looking for is anything written by a WWII Para or by a well respected historian, something along the lines of Stephen Ambrose,Band of Brothers.I need to know more about what they did in WWII.
Ive been trying to track down a copy of A Bridge too Far,again with no luck.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, would be a big help.

Thanks

Hi Rian, I know it's the pedant in me, but the Paras are not going to be happy being addressed as the Paracute Regt. If you look further down the forums there is a specific area for the Para Regt, it's possible there may be a reader there who may help you.
You should talk to somebody who gives a f**k.

History of the Parachute Regiment

Rian.ca,

Have you been to the History section of the World's Biggest Bookstore near the Eaton Centre? You may be surprised at what you'll find there.

im reading a book by the guy who did band of brothers, Called pegasus bridge, however it's not really a history of the regiment, just a story of one of the battles they thought in WWII.

Still good though...

A good read on the Para's is WINGS OF THE WIND by Lt Peter Stainforth who served in the 1st Parachute Division from 1940 to 1946 and was at most of the major battles. He fought right through North Afica, Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Arnhem.
