Aldo and Sisyphus,
America is different from the UK. We have the same Anglo DNA, but our people are so diverse it is dangerous. Our leaders would whore their own mother and outlaw the Constitution if they could get the Bill named after them. People are crazy here, the muliticulturalism has divided the place. Nb is right, we can't trust humanity. I tried it, it may work in Camalot, but here it don't. Just like democracy won't work in Iraq.
I'm afraid of socialism, I got friends from the Ukrain who attest to the horrors of it. They say the same thing I do, America is a great place where you can be and do anything, the only catch is, we have alot of fukd up people, and why? Because theywatch too much TV, have had their families destroyed and are taught to denounce God with pride. So naturally God is punnishing us. Lets talk about something else, you guys are good fellas, we just got different views on things, and thats fine, we can still share a beer.
Let them call me a rebel and I welcome it, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of demons were I to make a whore of my soul. (Thomas Paine)

whitey,

I gotta admit I still can't relate to your description of the 'world'. But, funnily enough, I can with more of it than you might expect.

In any event, I'm 100% in agreement with your last comment.

Mine's a pint of Guinness. And would that be a Bud for you? :drinking: :drinking:

Any disagreement stays in the thread. I never take it to another, it just complicates things. But seeing how you mentioned beer, I'll have a stella :drinking:

I've just been sat here thinking about the American CIVIL War.
Were they really polite?
Northerner "Oh dear I've been shot"
Southerner "Sorry old chap"
Northerner "Its quite alright. I'll be home next week now"
Southerner "OK Fine, have a nice journey and we'll be by to burn your house down next week"
Northerner "Thank you, I'll make sure the tea is in the pot"

Sorry, wrong sort of Civil!

Okay beer all around, but I choose the first round and I say Samual Adams Porter.

It is funny we argue this really, it is the same medium in which we and you in 1775 couldn't agree on. So we settled it with blows. I like you guys too much to fight with you, so I say we just avoid the Constitution and Queen topics for the most part or atleast try to see why the issue is so important to the culture.

You Redcoats are alright though in my book. But make no mistake if you ever burn down our capitol again I'll laugh, but I'll also have to kick your ass just on principle. Your fault why the US is screwed up anyway. You burned the White House and with it alot of the writings and plans for the future of America. Now look.

Did anyone see the Simpsons version of the founding of the US of A? Kin priceless. :P

Take it easy whiteboy, this doesn`t mean we`re engaged or into heavy petting or anything
you guys are good fellas,......... we can still share a beer.
We can still hold hands in the moonlight, though :P

To carry on with Sticks idea,
"No, I insist old chap, it`s your turn for a surprise attack, so, after you"
" My dear chap, I really must insist, it`s your turn"
"No, we went first, last week, besides, we`re a bit busy ,you know,"
"Really? Why didn`t you say so. What else did you have planned today?"
"Oh, nothing special, round of golf in the morning, spot of fishing, bridge after tea, cockers before dinner with the ladies sort of thing"
"Sounds jolly good, old boy,"
" Why don`t you join us, old thing?"
"Marvellous, d`you mind if I bring Johnners? Oh, I say, wait a jolly minute, aren`t we supposed to be fighting each other?"
" Oh, one must never let the war get in the way of one`s social life, don`t you know?"
"Quite"

Four weeks after Christmas we have "Holly Holy Day"

A bunch of repugnant ugly gits playing at being Roundheads and Cavaliers. A bigger bunch of ar*ewipes I have yet to meet. All roads are blocked for yonks as these scruffy herberts play at being soldiers.

I annoyed one by asking him why he was in the "Peeled Nuts" his reply was "Have at you Sirrah! Or we will place you in confinement!" the Nuts all laffed I replied "GO FU*K YOURSELF, DI*KHEAD!" It seemed the right retort in the circumstances.

And few of us dare challenge your expertise in this area, Artist, bearing in mind the recent improvements to your sphincter!

Must I be drug away from this fight. Sometimes I argue just for the sheer Hell and fun of it. In keeping with the politeness, if I refuse to argue with any of you it is simply because I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man

nb

Don't feel bad about it. We know the Surtherners have the arms. We just rely on our brain cells; both of them :P Quite sufficient, we find. :)

Woah, looks like I'll bomb this thread and get something stirred up again. (moderators willing, of course!)

First off, congrats to Time for naming the American G.I. "Person of the Year"...

Didn't read the entire thread post for post, but skimmed from the beginning (Page 1!). Thought I'd throw in my two cents (I'm a 17yr old Yank boy from Wisconsin, so I'm automatically ignorant, but bear with me.)

I think a lot of the violence in America is just a result of our media...we feed on disaster, we feed on destruction...people watch this shit, it makes the suits money, so they show it to us. I don't think its because we have lots of guns (left) or video games (left) or because we don't believe in god (crazy southerners :D )

I'm an Athiest. I have no reason to believe there is a God, and I haven't been shown evidence to support the belief in one. (Quite the opposite, actually...). I don't think that makes me crazy. I don't think that makes America a shitty place or a socialist place.

The very definitions of socialism and fascism are so VAGUE that practically any part of any government system can be called socialist or fascist in some way. I mean...My job is socialist, my boss is a fascist and my school is utterly stalinist, if I were to apply those definitions. I've heard more varied explanations of socialism than any other goverment system...because I really don't think its definible. Maybe socialism is "The bad-looking parts of whatever I dislike about that country".

Slightly More On-Topic Random Things:

- I don't dislike you Johnny Rebs. Please don't beat me up!

- Even if the UK supported the CSA militarily, I don't think it would have changed much. By 1865, the United States Army was the premier fighting force in the world in the use of Napoleonic tactics, and had the cutting edge military technology. (either on its own or through seeing it in action, such as the submarine) Also, the Monitor vs Virginia single-handedly rendered all wooden warships obsolete...so any advantage the Royal Navy had over the US Navy in those terms was probably moot. It wouldn't have taken much to produce a turret-bearing ship ala the Monitor that could survive the Atlantic.

- There are lots of instances of non-violent interaction between northern and southern armies. I'm sure a lot of it was formal. Also the most violent war in American history. Ahhh, how insane it all is.

Anyways, found out I lost my job. I'll spare you from any more of my non-sense. I had some more random crap to spew but that'll wait I guess. Gotta go make a living. Goddamn life. Always intruding on...life.
