Whatever the UK’s armed forces need, the MOD’s Defence Equipment & Support organisation has a £14bn annual budget to supply and support it.Working with military customers, project personnel and contractors, you’ll deliver the next generation of defence systems.

Your role

Your engineering input and advice will be vital to the purchase and maintenance of a host of sophisticated weapon systems. Focusing on either propulsion, warheads, explosives, guidance or initiating systems, you’ll be instrumental throughout the project lifecycle, from developing procurement contracts and accepting new equipment for service to working with the Front Line Commands to resolve problems and improve performance.

Your background

All roles call for a flair for problem-solving and decision-making, a BEng qualification or equivalent,a science or engineering degree or equivalent and, ideally, experience of technical systems or of making the most of new technologies. A background in weapons is desirable but not essential. You will be flexible enough to adapt quickly to changing priorities and as good at building relationships with a wide range of people as you are at leading and communicating. Applicants offered C2 roles are expected to have membership of, or eligibility for membership of, an Engineering or Science institution such as, but not exclusively, IExpE, IMechE, IET, IChemE, RSC, IOP at a minimum of Engineering Technician level or equivalent.

Applicants at C1 level will be expected to hold IEng status, equivalentor higher.

Applicants offered C1 roles are also expected to have membership of, or eligibility for membership of, an Engineering or Science institution such as, but not exclusively, IExpE, IMechE, IET, IChemE, RSC, IOP at a minimum of Engineering Technician level or equivalent.

Your rewards

Expect an open, flexible, supportive work environment, the freedom to gain varied skills and the chance to build experience across a wide range of diverse roles and projects. There are excellent opportunities for personal and professional development and on top of your salary you can look forward to a good pension and benefits package, performance pay potential and a healthy work/life balance.
