I've just come across this new unit on the Web. 'Information Exploitation Group'?? Was the Major General indulging in a quick spliff when he signed the authorisation for this designation?
What's wrong with 'Reconnaissance Group'? I suppose the Comms element complicates the issue but if reconnaissance is about gathering information on enemy strength, disposition and intentions I'm not sure it matters much whether this is by eye-balling or electronic means?
But if Reconnaissance Group isn't the right term surely we could have come up with something better than 'Information Exploitation'? I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall at the meeting which decided on that.
The Group may gather the information but it's only the commander who'd exploit it, not the Group.
Sorry, rant over!
