If it's the same as the RAF aircrew medical, it'll be blood tests, ECG, spirometry and chest x-ray.
Nothing too scary!
Of course it might not be, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to say!

You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

I went to the AIB a few months back and (unfortunately) didn't make the grade. Just thought I'd give you some tips so you don't make the same mistakes as I did.
1: For the discussion and gym tasks, make sure you listen to EVERYTHING mentioned in the brief. Our group totally neglected one aspect of our discussion exercise and consequently were all marked down as a result!
2: Try and find candidates who arrived a day before you. That way, on the second day they'll all be having their interviews and you can find people who have the same board as you and get pointers on the kind of questions they may ask.
3: Get the other three members of your board together as soon as possible and just try to socialise as much as you can. This is good for establishing a group dynamic. There is a reason why all the group tasks are on the final day.
The only thing left to say is have fun with it, don't get disheartened if things seem like they're not going well, and good luck.

Just trawl through the Telegraph for the next few days and see if you can get a copy of "The Week" if you don't already read it. I knew nothing about politics and current affairs before I started getting that and it's a real help. I expect you'll be getting questions about the hostage crisis in Iraq and the Beslan massacre so make sure you read up. They've got tons of copies of "The Week" in the rec room so you should be able to catch up.

well, i didnt pass. very close though. I can sum my failure up in one easy word. Tiredness! For some reason I couldnt sleep both nights i was there, this was ok for the first night and i tackled the psychometric tests no probs. But the second day I was so tired I couldnt think straight, to the point where i thought that we werent allowed to use the ropes to swing across the water unless told to in the task card, so i performed a convoluted solution (which would have worked had i not been interrupted a few times) but of course they wanted the most efficent way. This left the group discussion excercise where i had to focus so hard on staying awake i couldnt do basic sums in my head and in an attempt to be vocal i mostly was saying "yes" "ok", "i think perhaps that..." etc. with no real input bar one or two items. so the breakdown?
Written tests: Excellent, except my essay and summary were a bit weak (i havent written like this for about 7 years, so no biggy)
PLT: hmmm.... needed to be more efficient
Group Discussion: Needed to be awake!!
Main board interview: Fine, no real holes in any knowledge
Only one member of my board passed, and i was told that if i was still interested that they would probablly have me back before summer. Still contemplating my next move. Im not one to give up, but im gonna have to look at the practical side of things (like getting a job that pays enough money for me to live that isnt permanent! and the like)
Despite the obvious issues, I must say that the board members were rather pleseant.
