The Army does not have specific Recce Soldiers as a Role, what they do have in each Unit is a Recce troop or Platoon, these are manned by experienced guys who have a few years service and want to develop their Military skills. Not sure how the PF side of life works.

(Ex Bootie so may not be 100% accurate)

The British Army as Regiments who's sole job is Recce. On Foot as well as in Vehicles. They are the FR Regiments like Household Cavalry, QRL, 9/12 Lancers, QDG's etc. The job of the BRF on Operations as now been given to these Regiments simply because the role of BRF (Brigade Reconnaissance Force) and FR (Formation Reconnaissance) is about as similar as you can get.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' 'Chuck him out, the brute!'
But it's 'Saviour of 'is country' when the guns begin to shoot; (Rudyard Kipling)

To become BRF you need to pass the cadre. But to even get the chance to try you need to be above average in all military skills to end up in the BRF Squadron.

As previously stated, the FR Regiments have been given this role which was origionally given to the Infantry. Interestingly enough if they don't perform to a good standard they'll lose it and it'll go back to the Infantry who are already less than impressed that it's been given to "fat tankies".

They also have specialists attached to them, such as signallers and engineers, however these are the minority.

Funny enough us Light Dragoons based down the road from you have this role, so it might be worth joining us if you're interested, just bare in mind its not a given, and may take some time for you to be able to go into the role.

Drop me a message if you're after anymore info bud

Engineer Recce is normally 1 x Sgt and 1 by Troop Commander with there vehicle crew. They also must attend the brigade recce cadre. Engineer recce is attached to every Battlegroup although it is normally 1 Recce vehicle. Although can be more.

Recce in the Engineers is a great job if you can get it, but generally junior ranks will only be vehicle crew.....ie driver and signallers. The main job is down to the SGT and the 1st or 2nd Leui...

the main recon or as its called in the British army is STA (survailence and target aquisition) some of the more elite of the army are the Special Reconnisence Regiment, Special Observers( 4/73. P battery ect) The SRR is pretty much open to Sergeant and above and Special Observers are part of the Royal Artillery but are all arms courses, which obviously are open to all. from private upwards, except for Artillery personnel who can join straight from training. These courses are HARD, an only the best are accepted. You can find out more info on Special Observers by visiting army.mod.uk and navigate to Royal artillery, then 5th Regiment, an 4/73 Sphinx battery. As for Special Reconnisence Regiment thats a bit more restricted in information. But is basically a reformation of 14 Int Company.

currently serving with 4/73 bty.

SRR is open to all Ranks, not just Sgt and above.
