Medical?

Post by UKfighter »

I was wondering what kind of aspects they look at when you are doing a medical for aircrew and the standards of these aspects. :-?

Jace - as you're not applying for aircrew, I would suggest you're probably not best placed to answer the question...

From what I remember when I went through 4 (ish) years ago, it's height, weight, lung capacity, eyesight, hearing, ECG, colour perception and urine test. Also blood samples taken for the military DNA database.
There's a medical done at OASC, and a more in-depth one later on, providing you get accepted.

If you've any concerns about what to expect from OASC, have a look through this forum, there are a lot of previous threads which should help. After that, if you've still got questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck!

we got offered this for H9...it should of been put across as optional with anothr option should you decide to take part for your DNA to be destroyed when you wish, ie upon return from ops.

It will not be added to the National police database which holds criminal DNA etc.

It all came about appently after the helo that went down on Telic 1 killing several and body parts had to be sent to the US for identification and prolonging the agony for the loved ones back at home.

I opted against giving a sample as i know what liers they are with stuff like this, and with the current spate of data loss from the MOD and government wouldnt put it past them to add my DNA to the bank details, passport details, NOK and god knows what else theyve already lost!!

back to the topic, i think the medical procedue is very similar tri service! obviously pilots and people may need superman vision etc but the process is the same, slightly different between men and most women

It was optional, but we all took it.
We had our reasons, as you had yours for declining.

How many medicals do you have to go through until you have a chance to be chosen?

That sounds like you can keep having medicals until you pass...

If you get to OASC you will have a medical. If you fail the medical you will fail OASC, and you will be allowed to return in one year (depending on what the problem was, some things are an instant no, never). If you fail again, then that's it. Game over.
