Officer experience

I'm about to embark once again the process to become an Aircrew Officer after having failed my aptitude tests first time round. My problem is do I gain some valuable life experience before I redo my tests, at the moment I am looking at doing a gap year with 4 PARA, or do I apply to join up straight away once my A Level exams are over next year? Any help or stories on past experience would be helpful as the AFCO personnel are pretty unknowledgeable!!!!! (As quoted by a RN Officer from the Officer Recruiting Centre)
