Hi to everyone,can anyone advise where this originated.I thought it was the Marines but now Iam not sure as everyone uses it,thanks.

Not sure but I think it dates back to Roman or even Greek times.

Thanks Chunky,I am quoting the motto in a book so I want to get the attribution right.
Like the signature although once the man always the man and thats how it should be.To be the best is a rare thing indeed and we must never lose sight of that. :D :D :D

I never did get to the bottom of if although the book contains the quote without attribution and is selling well.Thanks to everyone.

A bit adrift, but just in case someone does ask you, 'Train hard, fight easy' is generally attributed to Marshal Suvorov of the Russian Army, 18th-19th centuries.
