My apologies Got1, the :fist: sign was directed at Sticky Blue
No we weren't issued with a housewife kit and had to purchase ours from the Naafi along with other such items.

I can't see a problem with that Mal, just do it discreetly in the evenings or weekends when the staff aren't about so much. I wish I'd done it myself because you forget so much both good and bad. Pain has no memory!

Hi Mal, I joined the Reg about 10 years ago so I would imagine things are pretty much the same now. My advise is to not take anything but the bare essentials such as some civvy clothes, running trainers and washing/shaving kit. Do not under any circumstances take any fancy new army/camping kit and t...

Don't worry about getting really fit because everything starts off gradually. It was one of the things that I used to worry about most before I joined but there's no need. Runs start off quite steady. However, we did do a 1.5 miler in the first week of arriving at depot and I wouldn't advise getting...

As a recruit I got to go out for a couple of pints on the odd occasion but there was always a curfew. We were warned not to go on the piss and we did listen to this advice on the whole. It's not worth the shit you'd get in if you did. We'd usually just get a bus into Darlington on a Saturday afterno...

ILB, looking at your programme it looks fairly well balanced. I wouldn't worry too much about the distance, just keep fit and stay consistent in your training. I would keep the distances under 6-7 miles with the exeption of one longer run per week if you feel better for doing it. Also make use of at...

Nortengit, I would lay off the treadmill and get outdoors to do your running. You will never once run on a treadmill in depot. It can also bring on injuries as I have found out in the past. All of the other programs above look good but I wouldn't worry about doing too many long runs (above 5 miles) ...

Charlie, they are the soft peak caps that are worn in depot and also in the field. More often referred to as "c@#t caps". Hope that clears your confusion.

You wear craphats until the sixth week if I remember rightly, when you pass off the square. You then wear the beret but with the green backing behind the cap badge to show that you are still a crow and haven't done P-Company. Only when you pass P-Company can you take the green backing off and wear t...

I think the reason that he stuggled was that he seemed to be one of those people who has a naturally low fitness level. He did show great determination to stick at it and maybe that is why he got through. However nobody who struggled that badly made it to the end of my intake in depot. 4 Para Rec, I...

It's a blood group tatoo and it states the soldier's blood group. Handy for medics to know if killed in combat.
