I used to hate jumping and only joined Para Reg because I wanted to be in the best regiment, not because I wanted to jump out of aeroplanes. My worst jump was the very last one I ever did. My good luck with injuries well and truly ran out this time. We were jumping onto Froghill in Norfolk I believe...

df2inaus, maybe I jumped the gun a little bit with my initial post. I guess that we all get a little protective of our former regiments, after all we should be proud of our acheivements and background. Anyway, your reply was appreciated and intelligently put forward.
Cheers,

I would beg to differ that lots of Sandhurst cadets could pass P Company and jump out of an aeroplane. Unless you've done it yourself, best not to comment.

Some great points made there Chapps. I can see things from both sides. I'm an ex regular who's now in the position of applying for a TA regiment. Although it takes motivation to work a regular job and soldier on weekends, at the end of the day as a TA soldier in most regiments you have a choice. It'...

During marches with a weapon you carry it in front of you low to the body and keep the swinging momentum of the arms exactly the same.

Just to add to one of your questions about the technique. You need to move your arms from side to side almost in a swinging motion. This builds up a momentum and take as long a stride as you comfortably can. Resist the urge to break into a run at all times. It will feel very uncomfortable to tab, es...

Langrotti, being an ex Para I would definately advise practicing a bit of tabbing (speed marching) before going in. Even though the speed and distance is built up steadily, it would still help as it's very different from running with weight on. During a tab you run on the downhills and most flat pie...

Keeping on the theme of fitness, do any of you guys believe in weight training when going for something like selection. I've gotta admit I like using weights, but do you feel it could be detrimental in any way? If not then should I be training heavy or just light endurance? Just thinking that the ex...

Hi Andy, I was in para reg in the 90's so can only tell you what it was like then. Basically if you are lagging slightly behind to start with, you'll get a chance to improve as the weeks go on. If you still struggle then the pressure will be applied and inevitably you'll be backsquaded. If you simpl...

Cheers for the reply, Because I'm only in the initial phase of getting myself prepared for this I am unsure of the standard of swimming required. I'm reasonable at it but what distance/speed is required? and is this part of continuation training? As far as the running timings mentioned above I can r...

ADVICE FOR 21 and 23 SELECTION

Hi chaps, it's my first time on the forum having only come across it recently. I'd like a bit of advice off anybody with the relevant knowledge if poss. To cut a long story short I was in the para reg in the 1990's so have a good military background and have maintained decent fitness levels. I'm now...
