Ah right, thanks for the answers.

I'm interested in joining the RAF but I'd like to use the TA as a sort of "taster" for military life. Plus I live about two or three miles from Carlton Barracks (23 SAS, 34/38 Signals) so it'd be pretty convenient if I signed up.

So basically if I was in unemployment the TA wouldn't accept me?

Stupid question but...

Is being in employment/education required to be in the TA? Or is it just that a lot of TA soldiers are in the TA because they're in employment elsewhere so they don't have the time for the regular army?

I think the only people who will know the answer are people who have served with 22nd Special Air Service Regiment. Secretive unit.

I'm more interested in being an engineer or helicopter crew member, although again I'm not sure if height is a factor in the latter.

Engineering

I've noticed to be an engineer in the RAF, one of the requirements is a degree. In mechanics I'm guessing?

Also, would the Air Force pay for your degree at uni if you didn't do A-Levels, etc?

SF secrecy

I doubt many of you will give the correct answer for obvious reasons, but I was wondering why the government and military are so tight-lipped about units such as Delta, SAS, JTF2, etc.

Hey

New here. As you can see in my profile, I'm a sales operative from Leeds, not the best of jobs but it pays my wages. But on occasions I have considered joining the RAF (although I'm too tall to be a pilot!)
