RNR Submarine Operations

What do they do exactly? Does anyone from the RNR serve on submarines?

Triathlon

Are TA, or for that matter, RNR, RMR, RAuxAF, members allowed to get involved with the regulars' triathlon association?

Thanks for your reply gkayesem.

It was seeing Threads on TV that got me curious about the whole nuclear war gig. A good film but much less entertaining than The Sum of All Fears :)

Bend Over and Kiss your Arse Goodbye. One line avoidence thingy :) Well, we'd all be doing that :( But seriously, were plans drawn up as to what the Army, Navy & RAF would do once the bomb dropped? Particularly, I assume submariners would be pretty well shielded from radiation. Once subs had la...

Protect and Survive

If a full scale nuclear war had evr taken place (or indeed, if it ever did happen) what were the armed forces plans for after the initial exchanges?

Particularly, were they going to push on into the USSR?

Or were they going to be left to die in the nuclear winter?

Not the next leader of the Tory party

Did anyone on the site ever serve with Davis in his TA days? Any inkling that one day he would fail to be leader?

Question

Why does the RAuxAF not publicise itself a little more? The TA gets all the TV adds and spots in glossy mags but why not the RAuxAF?

Any thoughts?

Thanks for that Macdui. In fairness to my friend, he was pretty rat-arsed when he started spouting off.

Why are you going for the infantry first instead of heading straight for the IC?

Weight training

Whilst I know the most important area of fitness to work on is stamina (until a knee injuury this year I was running 15-20 miles a week) is there any value in weight training?

I've always enjoyed it and would like to try and put it to some use in my TA preparation.

Choice of Corps

I have always been interested in getting a commmision in the TA Intelligence Corps. However, a friend of mine who is a captain in the TA RA (and is particularly enthusiastic about the fact) heard of my interest and emphatically told me that TA Intel 'do nothing' and that I should join his Royal regi...

Thanks guys. Most of my family are ex-military so I appreciate why you guys don't take too warmly to the insane number of bullshitters who post here. Good to see I can get taken somewhat seriously on the SF board  Every other weekend? Phew! The wife better get used to going shopping by herself...

TA into TA SAS

I am hping to get a commision in the TA at some point next year. After 3-4 years I think I'll want to try out to try out for 21 or 23 (all depend on where I'm living). I've read the official site of UKSF Reserve and was wondering what exactly the "considerable training demands" entail by w...
