Physical Education Officer
Hi there. Can anyone enlighten me as to the roles and employment oppertunities (especially at the latter stages of ones career) of a phys ed officer in the RAF? The website says: "Physical Education Officers do much more than keeping people fighting fit. You'll arrange fitness programmes, organ...

From a physiological point of view, swimming is a great form of exercise that targets pretty much all the major muscle groups in the body, with the added bonus of being kind on the joints as it is not weight bearing. You'd be better of continuous or pyramid swimming rather than treading water (more ...

The 2 week phase 1 course still exists, I failed the confimation weekend which you have to pass in order to go down to lympstone for the fortnight. Statistic, as far as i know (don't quote me on it) the commando skills that were incorporated into phase 2 (when it was 1A and 1B) are now packed into t...

Hi everyone. It was just the 'phase 1' course as they call it now, it's basically the phase 1 Alpha course, but they re-badged it. They did this as they were finding recruits that had gotten their green lid, weren't necessarily qualified to be deployed straight away. The course is now shorter but ev...

Failed Phase 1 Confirmation...Bugger
Hi all. God damn speed march! I passed every other test (fieldcraft and physical) with no trouble, but once again my lack of aerobic fitness let me down. I know it was only a 4 miler and the course was pretty flat, but the 32lbs took there toll and my legs refused to carry me at the same speed as th...

As a halfway measure there's always the RMR, plenty of guys your age in our recuit troop at the moment. It'll still give you the opertunity to be deployed but with the ability to be far more flexible with your time, something i'd imagine would be a good thing with a little'un on the way. Best of bot...

Hi Borisimo, I got 56/60 press ups, 81/85 sit ups, 31/41 burpees and 11/18 pull ups. I was really happy with my scores on the day, as never in training had i gotten 11 pull ups, or 81 sit ups in anywhere close to 2 mins. Definately incorporate burpees into your training as they took me by suprise. A...

Hi Borisimo. So far the vast majority of the training evenings consist of weapons training (pretty much every week), a phys session (either a thrashing or a circuit on the ropes) and map reading (which makes much more sense when you are out in a field and can see what's what. There are other bits an...

Hi there mate. A quick check on www.map24.co.uk says that Coventry is about 22miles, or 25 mins from Birmingham. I'm currently in phase 1 Alpha at RMR Birmingham, and i'm at uni at Nottingham Trent. This is 53 miles away, and i get about £22 travel expenses each time i go (incidently more than i get...

Passed PRMC for the RMR
Hi guys. I've just got back from RMR Merseyside having taken part in (and passing) the RMR selection. I'm proper knackered and I think i'll be doing alot of sleeping tonight! The first fitness test was the U.S.M.C fitness test which was on the saturday night. Of course there was an infamous Royal wa...

Hi there. I went down for the first 2 sessions which i thoroughly enjoyed (well, partly. It did show me how much i've got to work on my fitness). Since then i've not been down due to commitments with the RNR that i've been unable to get out of, plus a combination of inapropriately scheduled rowing t...

RMR Birmingham Open Evening 15th March
Hi there. I am currently studying at Nottingham Trent Uni and joined the RNR back in October. Since then sod all has happened in respect to getting medicals and test dates sorted as they (the AFCO and my Unit HQ) have lost various documents. To say the least i'm not entirely pleased, and as a result...
