ban?

I can't imagine there was any kind of ban, quite the oposite, My older brother was in 1 para A company, he left last year and he was actually encouraged to go in for selection. An SAS bloke he was training with gave him a UKSF pre-aptitude training manual booklet with the words at the top middle 'RESTRICTED' as with all official MOD documents. It was designed to aid you in the first month, which is the physical assesment, and then you can follow on to the 22 weeks of the actual SF training.

Also, its not "22nd Regiment" its just 22 SAS. The reason its called 22 is because in ww2 when the blades formed there was 1 SAS and 2 SAS. They were disbanded in 1945, but reformed in '47 (I think) as 21 Special Air Service Regiment (Artists Rifles) which still exists today as a TA unit. The number 21 was chosen as a nod to the old 1 and 2 SAS and reversed for some reason. When the Malaya Crisis kicked off, lads from 21 formed a new unit - 22 SAS - as a direct sequel to 21. Hence the name.

When Malaya kicked off the regiment that was formed was called the Malayan scouts (SAS).

i thought that about 8 approx get in normally anyway? could be wrong

on the News resently the SAS are yet again facing a recruitment crisis, due to cuts to personnel in regular units.#

It seems like it is as difficult to get into the SAS as what it is our SEALs.

It's because there hasn't been a major successful op like the Iranian embassy siege that's been shown. After the siege everyone wanted to be sas and loads of nuggets turned up thinking that life in the regiment is all James Bond and Storming Embassies those are the type of guys that don't get through selection.

There you go again.How would you know anything about the embassy? according to you you are a Para with seven years in,not a member of the SAS.Alarm bells are ringing

The problem is that many operations carried by the SAS and SFSG are not publicised to stop terrorist and other people knowing just what tactics are being used against them, but just because you don;t hear about them
