i did 10 heaves, 1.5 mile time = 9.47, TST = 43. Icebreaker was good, 10/10 for grenade test sooooo easy. I got acouple of 3's in team tasks that didnt help but a lad in my group was the same and he passed with grade A??????????

Hi all im new on here and i have a few questions.

I am going to the AFCO to Hopefully join on friday. I am just worried about my fitness levels as i know that it has gotten alot harder to get into the forces as of late due to them recieving such high volumes of applications.
The thing is, in feb i weighed 17 and a half stone, smoked and hadnt done any physical excercise for over 2 year. I have now quit smoking and i have lost nearly 4 stone, to be able to go into the army. I currently go running 3miles,4-5 times a week and swimming once a week. The first time that i timed my 2.4km run, i did it in 15 mins then tried again a month later and got 12 dead and these where both on a treadmill. I tried it oustide the other day and the route is 2.3km and the time i got was 10:39. I can do around 30 press-ups in 1 min, same for sit-ups and around 4 pull ups. Do you think i would get through selection?

Also do i get to choose where i go to for selection or do the afco choose one for you?

Sorry for the ramble but i really dont to be the one person that struggles with everything and ends up failing selection.

Thanks.

The 1.5mile run time all depends on what job you want to, under 10:30 mins should be ok for most jobs, when i went to selection a couple of weeks the only press-ups and sit-ups we did was durin the 30mins PT session. You do some heaves before the PT session but that is not a pass or fail, just best effort. there is a jerry can test where you carry 2 20kg jerry cans for 150metres (this is pass or fail)

where you go for selection depends on where you live, will either be glencourse in edinburgh or pirbright in surrey

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for the reply. I am still undecided about what role i want to do, i just know that i want to join the forces. I was looking at the REME and logistics but not sure yet.

My friend that went to selection in lichfield (whittington) also said that he only had to do them in the PT session on the night and that they are not recorded, yet the AFCO are saying that i will need to do them and get a certain amount of them in-order to pass. I'm just a bit confused lol.

I also done another timed run yesterday and got 10:03 which i was very pleased with.

Thanks.

congrats on your new run time.....

When you go to basic training, one of the first things you do is 2min max sit-ups nd press-ups followed by a 1.5mile run, think it is basically to give the insrtuctors an idea of what level of fitness you are at....

the more training you do the better

As far as i know mate just make sure you're putting in constant input and support, make your self heard and try to come up with ideas to help your team.
