All Stress Related Mental Illness - PTSD in particular

Post by Barry8 »

Experienced 22 years of COGNITIVE TREATMENT plus usual range of drugs. In 1976 commenced study of subject based on non effective use of Cognitive Treatment. Finally believe I now understand nature of problem at age of 81. Didn't think I should be in too much of a hurry! OK.
Most therapists (specialists) are inclined to deal with problem as of the MIND. So there is not a great success rate. The real point is that it is a problem of FEELINGS. It is generally believed that one is in control of one's FEELINGS. However, an EXCESS of STRESS tends to disrupt, disturb or SENSITISE ONE'S feelings. The CURE is to DESENSITISE the
FEELINGS. CURE is to RESTORE PATIENTS to NORMALITY. Not at all so obvious but that is the answer. I spent a long time trying to devise a practical program and eventually did so; but it was so cumbersome. I then uncovered the brief answer. It is that approach I wish to make public.
Seem to be running out of space. Will explain on a further occasion. PTSD is CURABLE - keep that in mind!

Good on you Barry8

As you're older than me :D (only by eleven years) ..... I'm interested
in hearing your follow up - some things take time - right ?

Perhaps you have the key to resolving problems for our visitors here.

Well done.

PTSD is CURABLE
I'm glad to hear you say that...well done!
My father suffers terribly from this. As do the "secondary victims" ...

One fundamental and recurring problem we've had is that some people seem to think they are able to treat PTSD, but they have no real experience or understanding of it and try to categorise it with other disorders or syndromes that they deem similar. And are not.

And another is that they neglect to treat alcoholism - which 9 times out of 10 goes hand in hand with it. You can't treat one without treating the other...endless circles of explaining the situation to ignorant persons who think they know more about it than you!

PTSD

PTSD is CURABLE - but NOT by use of COGNITIVE methods. General in use approach is to consider that it is a problem of the MIND. In reality it is a problem of FEELINGS. That is why COGNITIVE method fails as it is trying
to show the problem is of the MIND where it is clearly of patients' FEELINGS or EMOTIONS!
