Hi,
A friend of mine wants to know is it possible as a British citizen to join an army abroad such as in Australia or New Zealand?
Cheers
Danny

From the Australian Army Website
The requirements to enlist in the Australian Army are:
Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Have a current Australian address.
Be 17 years of age.
Be healthy and in good physical condition.
To work through the Assessment process.
Be able to get a police clearance.
But personally i think he can as an commonwealth citizen, there is many people on here who are from canada, australia etc who have been able to enlist in HM Forces, so im sure its very possible to do the reverse.
Joining the French Foreign Legion would be alot easyier by the way.

Danny,
Trust me mate tell you friend to stay. Unless your going to Australia to join 4RAR{ commando unit} or become a Clearence Diver then there is no point. The interview stage and the citizen req are very strict. Mate ive done the opposite and come to the uk for the level of training and the chance of deployments.Stay.
Regards
Oz

The australian army are looking for experienced snco's and officers to transfer from the british to the australian army. The process takes about two years in total and you drop a rank upon intial transfer to the aussie army.
With regards to joining as a Brit civvie, then I'm not sure but I think it's safe to say that even if you could your chances would be extremely slim, because you're not bringing anything to the table regards experience or a skill-set.
