Medical Deferral Appeal?

Post by Christiansra »

Hi guys,

I have seen on here before that people have asked about whether or not they should appeal against their deferral. That is why I have come to ask this. When I was 16 (2010) I applied to the army and was deferred due to not being clear of asthma and an apparent allergy to aspartame, I know this goes against the medical rulings now however, I visited my GP about 3 months ago asking for a second opinion on this diagnosis since I can now eat or drink products with aspartame in them due to this my GP has written a letter for me which states he believes I no longer have the allergy. What I would like to know if anyone else here has had a similar issue and joined up and how do I go about appealing?

P.S. I cannot reapply until September as that is when I will be 4 years clear of having an inhaler issued to me.

Thank you for any help that you may give.

I assume they will allow you to apply again, as there's now a test within the medical which basically involves blowing down some tube and it measures the strengh of your lungs or something along them lines, providing you pass that you should be fine

When you appeal, it's best to gather as much evidence as you possibly can, a letter from your GP is a fantastic start. You could also ask nicely if you could see a specialist in the field of allergies and maybe ask him politely to also write you a letter giving proof. After you've gathered as much evidence as you can, wait until your 4 months have passed and re-apply. This time though, when the recruitment staff send off your med docs, give them the evidence you have to attach to it and maybe a letter written by you also stating that you believe that your clear of the allergy and that you have worked hard on your fitness to get in etc etc and just try as hard as you can to persuade the person reading it that you have the potential to be the best soldier since captain america ;) lol

The medical proffesional that reads your re-application will appreciate the fact that you understand and have researched the condition in question and also that you have invested alot of time into providing the relevant evidence. He/she should finally fall upon the conclusion (provided that your evidence is solid) that you're committed and eager to join the forces and give you the pass stamp... hopefully.

hope this helps

Hi guys,
Just wondering if I can appeal a medical defferel due to knee injury?
I was in training in 2014 and slight injury to my knee, rejoined earlier this year and had my selection in January, they differed me on my medical due to they wanted a specialist to examine my knee further but let me carry on selection. I passed with flying colours and my csm said he wanted me on the next intake but needed to see the specialist, seen the specialist and they said they wasn't letting me in but they didn't look at my knee they just went of the notes they had. I appealed this and gave them physio reports X-rays MRI scans and still they said no.
Is there any way to go about rejoining?
I've also been doing bmf (British military fitness classes) and there's nothing wrong with my knee what so ever.

Hi Anthony T,
I'm a reporter for Metro newspaper following up claims that potential recruits have been unfairly rejected on medical grounds.
Can you give me a call?
Thanks,
