CYPRUS 1956 Amiandos - Does anyone recognise the RM Sergeant

Post by Atlantic Glider »

REF: The visit of Cyprus Governor Sir John Harding to Amiandos (Police Station?) in 1956 - he inspected in this film some guys from I believe 45 Commando.

My father sadly died in 1991 was Colour Sergeant 'Sticks' George (Ron George his number was PO5337). We re researching his history in the Royal Marines so any help gratefully recieved.

I am looking for anyone who was in this video to establish if he was the sergeant standing to attention on the right hand side of the inspection as our family believe it is him. This would be the only film we have of him. He is on the right next to the Corporal at around 1.09m

Thanks everyone.

Best

Richard,
One of the 'old & bold' on Once A Marine Always A Marine might be able to help, and I'm sure they would enjoy that piece of film footage.

Hi Walter,

many thanks for the pointer. I have posted there too....

Plus the link to the British Pathe News site which, by the way, has a whole load of RM videos which may interest many. I found a video of the Tercentenary (1964 of course ;-) there too - as Dad was in the Colour Party for 45 I believe.

Thanks again.

Richard
