Hearing requirments

Post by steve93 »

hi guys
ive been training for the marines for nearly a year now but last july i had a bad ear infection and its damaged my inner ear.

So now i have lost a lot of the hearing in one ear the other ones fine but i can only pick up deep noises and no high pitch noise at all in my bad one, docs say it wont repair itself so stuck with it.

Just wondering were this leaves me in joining the marines have my chances gone or can you still join up with limited levels of hearing in one ear.

Any help, advise much appreciated thanks

Fox is right. Deaf, blind....everyone has something or another!

I think you need to be able to hear to get in though. Once your in the destruction starts :D

Can you chaps hear me at the back?

Words spoken by a Major from the Horseguards to an audience of 40CDRM in the theatre at RNB Drake in 1974 during the preperation for a four month deployment to Andies Town.

Reply: "NO! Speak up Perce!"

Didn't go down to well truth be told.

But it proves that Bootnecks have selective hearing!!!

You will definitely have to pass a hearing test to get in, maybe you can be real nice to the nurse who is doing the test and she can hook you up. Like the rest of the boys said, your ears will be destroyed in a few short years. Best of luck.

Hmm....think about this one mate - the 'tones' come through at set intervals, so at the ones you have bother with - you'll know when you DON'T hear them - hit the button in a timed rythym, and you should crack it. Sounds a bit daft but it works, i can vouch for that.

I did mine arse about face - damaged my hearing on the range and had to conceal it in testing for other jobs since.

(sigh)..don't make me explain it again...damn near confused myself doing it the first time....

Doesn't mean you are hiding total deafness, most people with minor hearing damage lose part of the audible tonal range, so playing it smart you can hide this. I can hear perfectly well but the tests highlight the tonal weaknesses - which is bullsh1t really but is used to thin out the applicants for a job. And if you want it that bad, you'll do what you have to do to get it.
