!00 Miles Charity Event

Post by sittingstress »

Hi All,

To cut a long story short Natasha our 17 year old daughter has an inoperable, untreatable brain tumour which has made her blind. Her condition is terminal.

She went from being completely normal to blind and diagnosed with her brain tumour in under a week. She has managed fantastically well in adapting to not being able to see.

A couple of weeks ago she said "I want to help people less fortunate than me" and decided to do a sponsored 100 mile exercise bike ride on Sat 22nd Nov 08.

She wants to raise as much cash as she can for the following causes:

Help for Heroes (you all know what that is about)

CLIC Sargent (helps children with cancer and without their support we would have been down the tubes)

Brooke Gould is a local 2 year old girl with cerebral palsy who needs some specialist equipment. The local NHS have refused to fund it and her parents can't afford it.

She wants to raise as much as she can for these 3 causes but as her Dad I can say she will get a huge sense of achievement out of doing it. The last week has been crap for her as all her mates are learning to drive, gettting jobs and going out etc and she will never get to do any of these things. She needs a big boost to put the smile back on her face and raising a large amount of money will do it. This is a real challenge for her as her tumour makes her fatigued very quickly.

I have produced an info and sponsor sheet and a page explaining about Natasha but have no idea how to post them on here.

The bank details for direct donations are:

Bank Barclays
Sort Code 20-67-37
Account No 30621935

If you need any more information please do not hesitate to contact me at

100miles @ talktalk.net

Many thanks in advance for your generous support.

Justgiving is a really good idea, I've used it whenever I've done the Race for Life.
Means people have the GiftAid option as well, so you can get some money back off the government!
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.
Don't ever count on having both at once.

Thanks for the tip but justgiving is not an option as they are not set up to split donations between causes.

That's a shame.
I guess setting up 3 pages would be a pain.
You can have peace.
Or you can have freedom.

ss - why not set up a PayPal account to your email address - easy way round it, I was going to suggest this on arrse but thought I'd check here first.

Regarding the sponsor sheet/info et al use your usual word processor and save to .pdf (presuming your wp will do that) otherwise download PdfFactory free from HERE - in trial form the only restriction is the 'shareware' footer on every page, it is not time limited.
Otherwise PM me here or on Arrse with details of the sponsorship form, information leaflet etc and I will set it up and post it here/arrse/rumration.
Have you thought of posting on E-goat?
Hope this helps
Check your emails please

(donation will be on it's way either through PayPal when set up or through the bank)

UPDATE

Tasha started pedalling at 0915 this morning and is doing 2 hour sessions. She has just hit 55 miles and the whinging force is strong!

She is upbeat and though suffering a bit of pain she is just having some lunch and will then be back on again.

Cheer her on!

DONE!

Post by sittingstress »

100 miles is done and dusted and we are very proud of her. The last few miles were very painful for her but she just cracked on and finished with tears streaming down her face.

Thank you to all who have supported her in any way. If you can and feel you want to then please do make a donation at the Barclays account mentioned in the initial post.

Thank you all.

Please accept my apologies for not writing sooner. Natasha successfully completed her challenge on Saturday. The last 8 miles were very painful for her and it is testament to her determination that she didn’t stop and just kept pedalling. She finished with tears streaming down her face but with a huge smile too.

This week has been very busy. Between commuting the 75 miles to London for work we spent all day Tuesday as guests of the Gladiators watching the filming of one of the special episodes and meeting all of them afterwards. Thursday night was spent at Wembley watching Natasha’s favourite band McFly in concert.

Thank you very much for your generous donations and support. The total is rising steadily and as of today stands at £1620 all bar a few pence.

Once again on behalf of all of us thank you.

Further (very) brief update:

The money coming in has slowed down and I think it will be coming to ts natural end pretty soon.

As for a total well the running total so far has just topped the £3K mark. This is triple what we initially expected.

Thanks again to all who have offered support to Natasha in her effort.

ss

PS There will be a detailed report later.
