megadevil,

A gunner in the Amry refers to a soldier in the Royal Artillery, a gunner in the Royal Navy is responible for operating naval guns. So both live up to thier name and operate really big guns. In the RAF, for some strange reason, gunners refer to members of the RAF Regiment, infantry units who lack big gun thingies... It's just one of life's little wonders.

By the way - what is a technical gunner? Can't think what you mean there.
