Ground trades eyesight?
Right have searched this place from top to bottom and there is little or no useful posts on eyesight for non sky gods
Biggles can you help us out with what the requirements are? I've got a copy of the test and not sure what figures they will be looking at, but I understand that Visual Acuity is the main one?
*Those of you knobbers who may have recently joined please refrain from posting you need Perfect eyesight....you dont.

1 Best bet is to find your way to what you think is the opticians. If when you get there he offers you a good deal on some lamb chops then think twice about applying.
2 More seriously though, the answer depends entirely on what branch/trade you wish to join. I will assume from your username that you wish to join the RAF Regiment. The standard for RAF Regiment published in Oct 2004 requires 8/2 in each eye, translated into the usual Snellen fractions this means 6/60 unaided vision and 6/9 corrected acuity. In other words you need to read the top line on a Snellen chart at 6 metres without glasses/contacts and the 5th line down with your specs on.In each case you need to do this with each of your eyes while the other one is covered.
If you don't have a Snellen chart available there is an online version at www.mdsupport.org/snellen.html Make sure you do the maths at the top of the page or the result will be meaningless and dont be confused by the 20/20 notation used on the 'How is VA measured' page, it is a US site and they do the test in feet (20 ft = 6m).
3 These "knobbers who may have recently joined" would they be the knobbers who have recently joined the service that you wish to join if you pass the selection, if you get offered a place and if you make it through the training? or would they be some other knobbers? Knobber!
