Re: Officer Entry Fitness Requirements

Well I'm RAF, so we do it in trainers; we don't have a fitness test that involves boots.
I'd imagine your PJFT would be trainers as they wouldn't have issued you your boots at that point...

Re: Officer Entry Fitness Requirements

Resting position for push ups is with the elbows locked out - as soon as any part of your body touches the floor the test is over, so whatever you do don't drop to your knees!

To improve your run time, try sprint intervals. Lamp posts are a pretty good marker to use if you're road running...

Market Garden

Can anyone recommend any books that might help me with my research on the role of the Dutch Resistance at Arnhem? Specific questions: What were the aims of the Dutch Resistance? How did they support the Allies prior to Op MG? What were the Allied perceptions of the Dutch Resistance? (Both US and UK)...

Re: Notsure where this goes Stolen valor/Pretending to be ma

Sorry, I'm not going to condone people going and giving a 12 year old abuse, nobody in their right mind would believe he's a Marine at that age, and we're not in the business of internet bullying.

Re: Couples joining the RAF

For married couples they do try and co-locate you if they can, but it isn't always possible. Plenty of military marriages (I mean where both are serving) work just fine, but at the end of the day it has to be your call. Going through training together would be an odd one - you'd definitely not be al...

Re: Want to join the army but worried about medical

Yeah, that's probably going to be a no. I had a friend who got medically discharged for a similar condition, but not as serious.
Sorry!

Re: Fast Jet Pilot

Think it's 4 years for inhalers, so if it was prescribed within that time you'll need a letter from your doctor to say you don't now (and have never had) have any respiratory problems. If you can't get that then you will need to wait until 4 years after it was prescribed before they'll consider you....

Re: Fast Jet Pilot

If you manage to pass the aptitude tests for pilot, and get through officer selection, you then have to pass officer training and generic pilot training before you are streamed either fast jet, rotary or multi-engine. Afraid you don't get to choose!

Re: Thinking Of Joining And Have A Question ( Go easy )

Would have thought that would just draw attention to yourself.
From a female perspective, everyone else is too busy worrying about the things that they are self-conscious about to pay much attention to your insecurities - unless you highlight them!

Re: Want to join army but also want to be a pilot

Yeah... You don't just get to have pilot lessons if you join the RAF you know, you have to pass an awful lot of selection and aptitude tests, and they only take the very best out of the thousands that apply. Why don't you look at the Army Air Corps and maybe being a helicopter pilot? You'd still hav...

Re: Selection Interview

Be confident, speak clearly, smile, sit up straight and don't fidget.
If they ask you something you can't answer, it's ok to say you don't know.
Answer the questions they ask, but don't waffle!

Re: Previous RAF application in the past 12 months.

If your back struggles with a 10kg bergen after a few miles, are you really sure the military is right for you? Even in the non-regt bits of the RAF we carried more than that during basic training, so I'm pretty sure the Navy will be the same… Would hate for you to get in and then seriously injure y...
