Some of the things you learn in cadets can come in handy - uniform, rank structure, aircraft.

Then again, some things can be a disadvantage!

Go to the afco and ask them, they have all the answers! Failing that, ask the UAS at the uni you are going to.

I have a mate who is a Firefighter, it is VERY competitive. What other trades are you going for/thinking about?

Which AFCO are you going to?

To be honest mate, you are best off just heading down to the AFCO. There is no pressure to join, the guys there will give you all the info you need and if you have any questions they will try their best to answer them. Do you live near any RAF stations? If so, it might be worthwhile looking on their...

Cosford (where you do your PTI trg), has the biggest gym I have seen. I'm not certain but I think it may be the biggest in the RAF. Loads of weight machines, free weights etc, plus all your cardio equipment. There is also a swimming pool that is open most lunchtimes/evenings. Couple all that with yo...

If you are only 18 then it may be difficult to join as a Reg Officer anyway. Lots, (but not all) of Officers have degrees. Why not do a course for a few years and then reapply when you have some more life experience and a better chance of getting in? Plus the athsma time limit will have passed.

Those push up bars from Argos (about a fiver) are pretty good as well. They are made so that you can go lower than with a conventional push up, possibly making faster progress.

Of course, you actually have to use them not just buy them lol.

You will lose weight during basic, but once you get to trade training it chills out a bit and you should be able to go to the gym whenever you have free time. What trade are you doing/thinking of doing?

Do you have a link to the actual report, not the video?
