Alex, have you tried one of the specialist units?
Two weekends a year, plus annual camp IIRC. Surely you can fit your shifts round that?

When I joined up I wasn't prepared at all, I thought I was, but I wasn't. You need to work on your upper body strength. What's your running like? Unless it's good, I'd hang fire if I were you. If you try to join before you're fit, it'll probably end in tears. Dont be put off by a bit of banter. The Pioneers aren't that bad, you get to do a bit of everything, which is no bad thing at all. It may not always be the most glamourous or exciting work, but if you keep your nose clean and are a switched on cookie, promotion is likely to come reasonably quickly. ...
