Alex, have you tried one of the specialist units?

Two weekends a year, plus annual camp IIRC. Surely you can fit your shifts round that?

When I joined up I wasn't prepared at all, I thought I was, but I wasn't. I'd bimbled through recruit selection, and had barely broken a sweat during my own 'pre-joining fitness regime' which had mainly involved daily five mile jogs, followed by press-ups, sit-ups, and a few pull-ups. Basic training...

You need to work on your upper body strength. What's your running like? Unless it's good, I'd hang fire if I were you. If you try to join before you're fit, it'll probably end in tears. Read the forums, (there's loads of decent training programmes here), get fit, and then join. There's no point in w...

Interesting, any chance you could tell us what these side effects are?

I drink a lot of coffee, and have experienced caffeine overdose a few times (seriously!), but haven't noticed any side effects over the long term, and I certainly haven't developed intolerance for anything (not yet anyway!).

What? Part of the balcony?

Did the mafia hide his body in the concrete when they were building it?

I'd say that three times a week is too much, but it's up to you......after all it's your body.

What are you going for, and when do you start training?

Fartlek training can be very hard indeed, but it does help improve your times. Just don't do it more than once or perhaps twice a week.

What is your current fitness like, i.e. your 1.5 mile time?

P.S. Please remember to start sentences with capital letters in future!!!

No first-hand knowledge whatsoever, but I would imagine that they'll tell you where you went wrong and when (or indeed if) to re-apply.

If you bin it on day one, week one, I wouldn't expect a second chance.

Del_Boi,
Sort your spelling out please, or at the very least try and remember that sentences start with capital letters.

Rather than start a new thread, what are peoples opinions on walking with weight? (Grass/cross country). I'm running twice a week after coming back from shin splints, and wouldn't mind trying to add in a slow hill walk session that I can build up to a run. Does the weight counter the fact that you'...

Dont be put off by a bit of banter. The Pioneers aren't that bad, you get to do a bit of everything, which is no bad thing at all. It may not always be the most glamourous or exciting work, but if you keep your nose clean and are a switched on cookie, promotion is likely to come reasonably quickly. ...
