Hello. A while back I wanted to do something different and decided to join up to a reserve service. I wanted a physical challenge. I therefore decided (rightly or wrongly) that the toughest physical challenge I could think of was to get into the SBS reserve. To that end I joined the RMR which took l...

How long is a piece of string? You have to get all your forms in and pass various tests before you can do holding troop and then selection. There might be a bit of an overlap with form filling and holding troop but I think you would need to have the forms in etc before selection but don;t quote me o...

Not just security clearance - going through the form filling, medicals, Pre joining Fitness Test etc. My advice is contact your local unit first rather than going straight to the careers office. That way they will know about you before all the paperwork arrives on their desk and can help if there's ...

Realisitic Career Opportunities

--<pointless drunken waffle now removed  ------ What (realisitically) are the career prospects like within the RMR/RM if you were to get your lid aged 30? ie how long do you have to be in before you can specialise? & what are the age cut offs if any? & if you want to specialise should ...

If you joined RMR you would have to do selection anyway, you'd also get pretty fit, learn a bunch of stuff that will help when you go full time and get a taste of what it's like - how can that be a bad thing?

I'll remember that one! Thanks. Course the next thing they'll say is either A - OMG do you really want to kill people B - I'm worried you'll get killed or my personal favourite C - Do you really think you can handle that? I guess what I'm really wondering is whether there is any point in even gettin...

I decided a while ago that I wanted to join the marines reserve ( I know there is a seperate bit for reserve topics but I think this would be relevant for FT as well). My parents were really understanding and supportive and have be...
