Lonely, as Flo has said above we are a tad unsighted in which branch of the Services your husband is in - Army, Navy, Air Force and where in the country you are based. Based on 13 years commissioned service and having worked alongside the welfare set up for the RAF and also managed it at an RAF Flyi...

Also i heard that they're far more likely to accept somebody with a degree compared to somebody having just come out of college. Is this true? Or rumour? And if I didnt get accepted whats the minimum amount of time til i could re apply? Thanks again xx Generally speaking the Armed Forces do prefer ...

Re: RAF career questions

Hi there, I'm interested in an RAF career, but I need to clear a few things up that I cant seem to find the answer to. First of all, I want to join the RAF as a pilot (and probably like most people, would love to get selected as a fast jet pilot). I'm currently in the process of doing the private p...

Yep - quite funny - pinned up in the office as well.

A few facts:

1100 aircrew not receive flying pay - 15 of them not paid at all
Noone in Cyprus paid on time
80% of RAF have received inaccurate pay

What a great system

Salary is good as you finish trg as a Sgt. With Flying pay on top of that - not bad at all.

My advice - go for it.

Oli Vard - yes you can ski recreationally in the RAF. You can either organise or partake in AT expeds or particpate in the RAF Ski Champs (which is open to everyone regardless of ability) which occurs each Jan in Saalbach. You can also go on the Basic Winter Trg scheme (a mixture of nordic, downhill...

No you cannot wear your green beret, however you can wear the Cdo Dagger on your uniform. Once RAFR you can only wear the green beret if you work with the RMs

Yep nine years does sound like a long time, however, once in the chances are you will enjoy it. The key is to make best use of your time to be honest, and the analogy of the more you put in the more you get out is certainly true in the forces. I have now been in since 1993 (commissioned) and have th...

Martin, think very carefully about Painter&Finisher trade. The trade will be largely obsolete in the next few years, and tends to be a dumping ground for the other engineering trades. If you want to work with planes then try the other engineering trades.

Depending on vacancy requirement the wait can be as little as a few weeks. Probably more likley 1-2 months at the present.

Not an FOA, however, have you tried the RAF website, getting in contact with your AFCO or even contacting your local unit the operates aircraft.

Your normal engagement is 9 years, however, you can apply to leave early called Premature Voluntary Release (PVR) 3 years after you have finished your Phase 2 (ie professional trade) training. If you are undergoing training there are other option points: U18 - give 28 days notice Over 18, but have c...
