The upper age limit quoted is 50. You will be absolutely fine if you want to join the RAuxAf Regt as long as your basic fitness is adequate. Have a look at the website:

darkwarrier, Have you attended one of the presentation and interview evenings at 3 MI? This gives the potential recruit an excellent insight into the type of stuff they get up to. I was quite impressed by the exciting range of opportunities they offer. You are correct in what you say about compeitio...

darkwarrier, You're right that the RAuxAF is very low profile. I suppose the obvious answer is that the TA is a far larger organization with a larger budget to throw at advertising campaigns. As the RAuxAF is smaller with a narrower geographic reach running a national advertising campaign would not ...

I do not have first hand knowledge, but the people I know who have been in 3 MI Bn said it is an excellent unit. As Hanstad said it is very well-integrated with the regular IC and has been extensively used in recent years. There is also talk of expanding its capabilities and size, so the RA guy you ...

I agree that the TA website is more like a marketing tool than a repository of useful information (sack the PR pricks who were behind it). I found this info (from my local infantry regiment) to be useful: http://www.army.mod.uk/ewrr/recruiting/officer.htm I must admit I find it a strange concept tha...

darkwarrier, Nothing wrong with pushing some weights as part of an integrated training programme. Pushing weights also helps with injury prevention (i.e. like those you get when you're carrying a heavy bergen). I would say that working on your upper body and lower back areas would help with this. If...

If the Army boys hate the RAF Regt so much why do they spend so much time talking about us? There is an ongoing thread on ARRSE at the moment that is pretty funny. After someone asked about becoming an RAF Regt Officer (on an army site I ask you) it met with the usual chorus of derisive ignorant abu...

I may not be in the RAF yet, but the whole bloody service better watch out because I start my Basic Recruits Course next month! That'll get the bloaters at 2503 Sq on their feet, god knows they need to get their lard a...

Without wishing to sound pedantic, but there is a danger in posting second-hand information as fact. If you aren't in the RAF and you aren't 100% sure of the info you are posting perhaps it is wise to add the comment "I'm not in the RAF, but I've been told that... Fair play, good point Biggles...

megadevil, A gunner in the Amry refers to a soldier in the Royal Artillery, a gunner in the Royal Navy is responible for operating naval guns. So both live up to thier name and operate really big guns. In the RAF, for some strange reason, gunners refer to members of the RAF Regiment, infantry units ...

Any Gunners from 2503 Sq here?

I'm about to join 2503 Squadron - doing the BRC this October - and just wanted to establish contact with any lads from the Squadron. What are you experiences in the Squadron? Are the regular staff good lads or are there any to watch out for? What is the training like? Make contact......

Officer training with the RAuxAF

Does anyone know anything about officer selection and training in the RAuxAF (particularly in the Regiment)? Is anyone here an officer or considering gaining a commission? I was told that there are quite a few officer vacancies in the Aux Regt at the moment and that it involves attending two main co...

TDJ, I have to say I am not certain. I am in the process of joining the Regt and when I asked about sniper training the Senior Recruiting NCO told me that Regt snipers do the same 7 week course as the Army. However, that could just be for those who want to become sniper instructors. The Regt could w...

bumpkin1, RAF Regt snipers attend the 7 week course at the Infantry Battle School in Wales. This is the same course undertaken by British Army snipers. It is a selection course and is widely considered to be very tough. You can also recieve training by a qualified sniper within the Regt, but obvious...
