SA80 + Granade Launcher?

Post by Statistic »

I picked myself up a copy of the Nov/Dec edition of the Globe and Laurel today at the AFCO and looking at the two Marines on the front moving away from a explosion in the backround i noticed there weapons. They were SA80s with an add-on that i've never scene or heard of anywhere before, it looked like a granade launcher but i'll not to sure sure.
Is this a new bit of kit that came into service with the SA80A2 or what?

Also, is it just certian units that use it or are all marines capable of using it operationaly?

I have not seen the picture but it is possible that it is fitted as Royal Ordnance have made one to fit onto the SA80.

There is apparently a purpose built SA80 grenade launcher, but I've only seen one picture on one website so i can't say. however, in Afghanistan they did modify the SA80 hanfguard to accpet the H&K AG36 grenade launcher, that may be what was in the picture.

A bit of a digression but a mate once fashioned an 'attachment' for his weapon made out of a plastic pop bottle and some gun metal paint before patrolling in NI as a bit of a joke. Questions were asked at the highest level about this 'secret weapon' and he even got a mention in An Phoblacht :o (Republican News). Some people have no sense of humour :(

I have used the SA80 with the grenade RLG (big rocket thing like a mortar bomb) you put it on the end of the barrel and fire a single round which fires the grenade.

Are you sure it wasn't a FAKIA torch or what ever they call the new one that you saw. They fit under the weapon to, but up close they look like a maglight.

Is this the picture in question? http://forums.ukairsoft.net/attachment. ... tid=340401

While that may be the new torch Barry was talking about, this is almost certainly the AG36; http://www.operations.mod.uk/veritas/im ... nd3_hr.jpg (immediately to the right of the minimi).

Thats the one! Its deffinatly an SA80 (Its clearer on the Globe and laurel picture). It looks quite decent, now i wanna no if its just certian units/specialisations that use it or if all are trained to use it.

There's a rumour that John Lewis has run out of thermos flasks and grey anoraks. Anybody else heard that? 8)
